Following the success of last year’s national “Clean for the Queen” clean-up, which saw 250,000 litter heroes take action. This year “Keep Britain Tidy” are aiming to inspire a half a million people to join in and enjoy a few hours together litter-picking to make the places where we live more beautiful by attacking the blight of litter and reclaim our beautiful countryside, our fabulous towns and wonderful parks.
All of the country’s litter charities have come together in support of this campaign together with a growing range of companies, land managers and associations. The Great British Spring Clean – the name was chosen by the public – will be the most monumental of all litter clear-ups and will take place in Medway from Friday March 3 to Monday 13 March, 2017.

Here in Rochester South and Horsted, we will again be participating after the successful event at Rosebery Road Recreation Ground by the Balfour schools last year. The ward councillors will be working with the Community Wardens in this initiative and local residents are invited to join us at Vale Drive Park on Tuesday 7 March, 2017 at 12.30 pm. We will meet at the entrance to the play park from 12.20 pm to distribute bin bags and litter-pickers.
The focus will be litter around the entrance points into the Horsted Valley. The event should last no longer than one hour. The national organisers say: “working together we can make a real start in combating the scourge of litter and demonstrate that there are many, many people across the country that care passionately about the issue and are prepared to do something to help sort it out” – we very much agree and hope that some of the ward residents will be able to join us for the Great British Spring Clean.
