The Medway Area
Medway Council is preparing a new Local Plan to provide direction on the future growth of the area. The aim of the Local Plan is to ensure that Medway grows sustainably, to provide land for the homes, jobs and services that people need, whilst protecting and enhancing the qualities of the area’s environment and heritage.
The formal consultation runs from 16 January to 6 March 2017. Full details of the consultation document, supporting information, survey form and consultation events are available to view on the council’s website at: www.medway.gov.uk/futuremedway.
Rupert, Kelly and Trevor on the House of Commons terrace
Rochester South and Horsted ward councillors Trevor Clarke and Rupert Turpin with a number of their fellow Conservative Medway councillors, met with the constituency MP Kelly Tolhurst at the Houses of Parliament to discuss the implications of the housing needs assessment by the Government for Medway.
This process will be the subject of extensive consultations for the new Local Plan over the next year or so and it is vital elected members and residents alike are engaged and involved in this work to help ensure that only sustainable and achievable targets are set for the area that are matched by corresponding infrastructure programmes and that our green spaces are preserved. Horsted Park is the only large development for the ward and we will be featuring progress of the phase two build on that site next month.
Phil and Kelly on the House of Commons terrace
Phil Hall, Conservative Councillor for Strood North, joined a number of his fellow Medway Conservative Councillors in travelling to Parliament to discuss the long-term housing, infrastructure and environmental needs of Medway.
Phil is working closely with local MP Kelly Tolhurst to make sure Government targets can be managed effectively and properly take into account the needs of residents in Strood North and Medway as a whole.
