We have in the Rochester South and Horsted ward, Woodies Youth Centre in Arethusa Road, which provides a place for 10 to 19-year-olds to have fun, socialise and learn new skills.
Professional, experienced youth workers from a range of different backgrounds offer information, support and advice on a range of issues. The centre offers an assorted programme of activities, including general arts and crafts; sports; music, and games. Please see the link above for opening times and more details of the activities offered.

The ward councillors helped fund a two-week play scheme in the summer holidays, aimed at looked after young people and young people known to Early Help or Children’s Services aged between 8 and 14. Activities included cookery (pizza and pancakes), football, workshops (graffiti, “silly science” and forensic science), an education talk delivered by the Blue Cross animal charity, theatrical makeup, photography and film-making, a music session, creative arts and optional activities like pool table, table tennis and board games.
The youth workers advise that the young people enjoyed the variety of activities and workshops, the most popular proving to be forensic science, cookery, football and film making. On completion of the summer programme, Woodies received very positive feedback from both young people and their parents / carers who all enquired into future provision at the Centre. “Thank you to all of the staff for all of this, the youth club is great and you are great. Thank you, we really appreciate it” – Lillie and Jessica (Young People).
