Work has begun on the upgrade of Strood Railway Station which will see almost £2.7 million of private investment in order to bring it into the 21st century.
The Station, which first opened in 1856, will have a temporary ticket office, which will be in place by Monday 13th March and all platforms will remain open.
The redevelopment of the station follows those at Gillingham, Rainham and the relocation of our other railway station in Rochester. It forms part of Medway Council’s regeneration of the area which intends to provide a modern station as part of a £135m investment programme. SouthEastern has said that the new railway station will include more gates and a bigger hall. There will be a waiting room and new toilet facilities.
The new-look railway station is due to open late 2017.
