Potholes can be dangerous if not repaired

We as councillors are really pleased to see that you read the articles we publish on this page and that you do contact us with your concerns, even if they are minor ones.
Take potholes for instance, they can be more than a nuisance. They can be a danger to cyclists and others. In the UK, there’s an average of one road defect for every 100 metres of road.

With potholes estimated to cause as many as 1 in 10 mechanical failures on UK roads and costing motorists an estimated £730 million every year, repairing that pothole will help to avoid the cost and misery they cause.
Pothole repair is an ongoing aspect of Medway Council’s street maintenance programme. Repairs include the patching of potholes, depressions, bumps, and pavement edge defects to Medway’s streets. Although local councils have a duty to maintain the roads, we can only repair and fill a pothole if we know about it. Therefore, if you want it repaired, you have to report it.
