Rochester South and Horsted ward councillors have been notified of some proposed improvements to the cycle route facilities at Maidstone Road, Rochester leading up to The King’s Rochester Sports Centre on the western boundary of the ward.
As part of the Council Cycling Action Plan, Maidstone Road, Rochester, was identified as a key route. Work has therefore been underway to design improvements to existing sections of cycle route at this location as well as where possible introduce new sections of off carriageway cycle route to provide route continuity.

Two layout plans are attached (below) that indicate the proposed improvements. The first layout is an overview of the route indicating existing and new sections of route. The second layout is a more detailed plan indicating the proposals for a specific area on the route that relates to our Rochester South and Horsted ward.
The overall aim is to create a continuous cycle facility from the King’s Rochester Sports Centre to the northern end of Maidstone Road at Vines Lane. Improvements include where appropriate; widening and or resurfacing of existing footways to accommodate shared use by pedestrians/cyclists, new signing, improved crossing points, and other improvements to provide suitable shared footway/cycleway facilities.

These proposals form part of the Councils Cycling Action Plan funded via the Local Growth Fund. The aim would be to introduce improvements to the route during the next 6-12 months and work may commence later this year.
We have asked Officers to ensure that the cycle facilities along Maidstone Road Chatham are also reviewed.
